The lily, a symbol of purity, is the common name for 400 species of plants. The name Susan means "lily."

Materials:

1" x 8" poplar boards
1" x 4" support braces
drywall screws
router
bits (V groove and ogee)
jigsaw

Steps:

  1. Cut all the boards to length (54 inches for the featured project). This height allows the headboard to be tall enough so pillows won't hide the design. Nine boards were needed for the desired width of the full size bed in the featured guest room (adjust width as needed for other sizes).
  2. Place the boards together on the floor. Square them up, and then screw support braces to the back.
  3. Create a tongue and groove look with a router and bit.
  4. Draw desired design and cut it out with a jigsaw. Soften the edges with the router and ogee bit.
  5. Prime and paint on the base coat (two if necessary). Once dry, add design.
  6. To attach, line up the frame and mark the headboard. Drill the four holes needed using a spade bit; insert the carriage bolts and tighten it.
