Mudroom Bench and Cushion
Materials:

fabric
rectangular 1" thick foam
quilt batting to wrap the foam
buttons to cover
matching thread
white thread
needle
scissors

Steps:

1. Cut foam to size, one inch narrower and one inch shorter in length than the finished cushion. Wrap the foam in one layer of quilt batting and hand stitch the three sides closed.
2. Cut two pieces of fabric for the top and bottom of the cushion. Add 2-1/4 inches to the finished length and width of the fabric to allow for boxing and seams.
3. With right sides together, machine stitch three of the sides, leaving an opening to insert the foam.
4. Insert the foam and hand stitch the opening closed.
5. Make the covered buttons, following the manufacturer's instructions. Stitch them in place on the cushion using six-ply embroidery floss. Stitch through to the underside of the cushion and tie off the thread in several knots, leaving about 1/2-inch of thread when you cut off as decoration.
