Steps:

  1. To figure out the amount of fabric you need, measure the ceiling height, multiply it by two and add two to four yards for the swag. (Eight yards of fabric was used on show.)

  2. Fold fabric in half and run a two-inch seam where the fold is to use as pocket for the dowel (figure A).

  3. The placement of the other two rod pockets depends on the size of the swag that is desired. Run two more two-inch seams on either side of the pocket that you made in the center of the fabric, so that you have a total of three rod pockets.

  4. Run a dowel into each rod pocket. Attach a cup hook at each end of each dowel, and attach one or more cup hooks to ceiling, depending on how you want to hang canopy.

  5. Attach chains from dowel-cup hooks to ceiling-cup hooks (figure B).

  6. Use hot glue to attach ladybugs, butterflies or other embellishments on the underside of the canopy (figure C).

  7. Make bows with wire-edge ribbon and attach them to dowels with wire. If desired, run more ribbons along each dowel.
