Figure A
Steps:
  1. Be sure to put on safety glasses before beginning this project. Make a headboard frame out of 1 x 4-foot pine (figure A). It should be as tall as the top of the mattress and just as wide.

Figure B
  • Use a 2 x 4-foot jig with slots on the top to hold the twigs as the holes are predrilled (figure B). The holes should be closer together than the headboard wood. Another option is to clamp the twigs to a work surface.

    Figure C
  • Screw in place a long twig to each side of the frame, level with the bottom and going up above the headboard (figure C).

    Figure D
  • Bend the two twigs together above the frame and twist them together. Tie with a wire to hold in place as you finish adding other twigs (figure D).

  • Begin screwing smaller twigs into the top piece of the headboard frame.

  • Tie the upper portions of the twigs to the original two twigs that were wired together earlier. Use wire or raffia to tie them together.

  • If necessary, trim excessively long pieces of twigs.

  • Screw the headboard to the wall or, if you have a wooden frame, screw it to the frame.
