Decorating expert Eileen Paulin provides ideas on how to give a plain bed frame a brand new look with virtually no effort.

Materials:

tape measure
pencil
staple gun
sheer drapery panels
glue gun
needle and thread
large fabric buttons

Steps:

  1. Begin by measuring the width of the bed, then dividing that number in half, then in half again. For instance, a queen bed that measures 60 inches across will divide into 30 inches, then 15 inches.
  2. Use the final number to measure four evenly-spaced areas for the headboard area. In this example, from left to right above the bed, make a mark at the starting point, then at 15 inches, 30, 45, then at 60, for a total of five pencil marks.
  3. Use a staple gun to hang two sheer drapery panels. Staple from the outside in, with each sheet meeting in the middle (at 30 inches). Find the center of each panel and staple at the 15-inch and 45-inch marks.
  4. To create the rosettes, cut 10 rectangles of fabric (two rectangles for each rosette). The size is up to you, but the each rectangle should be about twice as long as it is wide.
  5. Flip the rectangle over to the wrong side and bring each long side over to the middle to create a seam. Glue the seam together. Bring the bottom short end up and the top short end down, meeting in the middle. This will create a small rectangle.
  6. Flip over and bring the sides in with a double-fold. This will resemble a girl's hair bow. Secure the bow with needle and thread. Create two of these for each rosette.
  7. Place the two bows one on top of the other, then sew or glue a button in the center.
  8. Use two staples to secure each rosette to each of the five staple points on the wall.
