Video: This wall hanging is an actual drawing from a comic strip created by the young artist who lives here!
Materials:

black and white drawing
6' x 10' canvas
gesso
paintbrushes
carbon paper
ball-point pen
paint
black marker
grommets
1x4 lumber
hooks

Steps:

1. Enlarge the drawing at an office supply store so it's large enough to cover the canvas.
2. Coat the canvas with gesso using a paintbrush. This seals, stiffens and prepares it for paint. Once dry, arrange the pictures or panels until satisfied.
3. Use large pieces of carbon paper placed behind the pictures and a ball-point pen to trace over the drawings, which will take time. It's necessary to lift the picture every now and then to make sure you are tracing over all the lines. Continue until the entire drawing is transferred to the canvas.

4. Paint the picture as desired. If you want it to look like a comic strip, paint the large shapes like faces and clothing first. Once dry, outline the pictures with black marker for the cartoon effect (figure A).

5. When the canvas is done, add grommets along the top edge so it can hang on the wall. Attach a 1x4 piece of painted lumber with hooks in positions that correspond to the grommet holes to the wall (figure B) and hang the finished canvas over the hooks.
