Materials:

Bunny Burner transfer tool

acrylic paints (2-ounce size)
glazing medium
palette
small foam brushes
assortment of small artist brushes
Crafter's Pik Craqueleur base coat (large crackles) and top coat

Steps:

  1. Make color copies of fruits or vegetables on a laser copy machine (not an ink jet). Place copy face down onto canvas. Use Bunny Burner to transfer design (figure A).
  2. Mark a border around motif. Mask-off inside and paint outside of tape with desired colors (figure B). Allow to dry and remove tape.
  3. Use a foam brush to apply a coat of the large crackles base coat to the entire surface. Let dry for about an hour--glue will be clear but slightly tacky.
  4. Use a foam brush to apply top coat. Let dry overnight. Crackles will appear when dry.
  5. Apply stain with a cotton cloth to antique entire piece (figure C). Wipe off as much stain as desired.
  6. Stretch muslin onto wood frame and staple on back. Trim with scissors.
