Avid collector Chauncell Dean is often referred to as the 'plate lady' and as soon as you approach her home you find out why. Plates line not only the walls and shelves in her home, but also the outside garden. Inside, the living room walls are painted a soft gray-green, which acts as neutral to her many collections and colorful accents. The mantel is decorated with silver pitchers, candlesticks and trays that she's left alone for an aged look. The furniture is kept simple with white slipcovers which allows her collections to take center stage. She arranged the furniture on an angle to take advantage of the two focal points, the fireplace and entertainment center.

The dining room is a pass-through space so she placed the table close to the window. Striped draperies hung close to the wall take your eye up and add drama to the picture window. An iron etagere in the corner holds a collection of blue and white porcelain; the vignette is a nice relief from the many wood pieces in the space. Slipcovered chairs tie in with the look in the living room.

The kitchen features a more old-fashioned look with a black-and-white floor and skirted sink. Her ceramic rooster collection is showcased in the cabinets behind chicken-wire inserts (above, left). Her substantial fruit print and plate collection is showcased on the walls (above, middle). A collection of colorful enamel pot tops adds visual interest over the breakfast table (above, right).

A soft, romantic look is prevalent in the master bedroom. She's decorated the space with part of her old door collection. She replaced the glass in two of them with mirror and instead of traditional curtains, used the louvered door to add privacy in front of the window. The bed sits up high on two mattresses and a box spring. A collection of pillows covered in Battenberg lace are layered on the bed. The wood furniture pieces are made up of bargain finds and family heirlooms; wrought-iron pieces and glimmering candelabras add to the eclectic look.

Her daughter's bedroom is just as inviting with white-painted furniture, a net canopy over the four-poster bed and chandeliers and table lamps dripping with crystals. None of the furniture matches but white paint ties it all together. A glass top on the dresser protects it from scratches and dents.

The bathroom in between the two bedrooms is small but the high ceiling and two tall windows make it feel more spacious. Brown and olive green striped carpeting adds a punch of personality and high-style underfoot. The floral curtains are handmade and tie in with the display of floral prints adorning the walls.
