Materials:
wooden plaque
red acrylic paint
high-gloss varnish
paintbrushes
wax paper
gold leaf and sizing
copper tooling foil
embossing heat gun
pencil
scissors
round object (cup or vase)
hot glue gun
Steps:
1. Paint plaque red and let dry. Apply another coat if necessary. Varnish once dry.
2. Tear wax paper to create mountain shapes. Place torn wax paper on plaque and brush a thin line of leaf sizing along the edge of it. Remove paper and cover an area two to three inches above the mountain line with sizing and let it dry until tacky. Place gold leaf on sizing and brush excess off.
3. Cut copper tooling foil into an 8 x 10 inch sheet. Concentrate the heat gun in one area of the foil at full strength for three to five minutes until color variations emerge (create a circular shape to represent the sun and long stripes for mountains ).
4. Place the round object over the color variegated copper and trace a sun with a pencil. Cut it out. Cut out the mountain stripe with a straight line at the bottom and an uneven line above the stripe.
5. Glue the copper mountain piece to the bottom of the plaque below the gold leaf (leave a space to reveal red paint between the two) and the sun to the right in the red area above the gold leaf.
