Bring a touch of the islands into your home with a raffia-trimmed pillow.
Materials:

square pillow form
scissors
pins
tape measure
island print fabric
2 hula skirts with stitched top edge (available from party stores)
fabric glue
clothespins

Steps:

  1. Measure pillow form. Cut two pieces of fabric plus two inches all around for seam allowances. Put one piece right side up on a flat surface.
  2. Cut raffia on hula skirt from top stitched edge to desired fringe length plus a couple extra inches.
  3. Pin raffia (facing in) along outside edges of fabric piece on work surface, and then glue in place along three sides. Trim excess and use clothespins to hold it while drying.
  4. Place the second piece of fabric on top (wrong sides together) so the raffia is sandwiched between the two and glue along the same edges.
  5. Clip fabric a bit at the corners and turn right sides out. Press with fingers all along edges and iron in place. Turn under unfinished edge about one inch and press.
  6. Insert pillow form. Glue another piece of raffia between the open layers and pin until dry.
  7. Trim raffia as needed.
