To give a wooden surface a leather look, grab the masking tape, brown shoe polish and polyurethane. Cover the entire wood surface with masking tape in a crisscross pattern (see photo at right) by placing one piece of tape horizontally, then the next piece vertically. Repeat until the table is covered.

Rub a little shoe polish over the tape until you get a dark texture. Once you are satisfied with the shade, coat the surface with polyurethane and you're finished!
