Materials:
wood octagon tray (#2051)
5-in-1 wood-burning tool
branding tips (Leaf Corner, Leaf Border, Turtle, Lizard, Ladybug, Butterfly)
Woodcrafters markers (Light Pine, Evergreen, Grass Green, Medium Cherry, True Blue)
200-grit sandpaper
sixteen 1" round wood pieces
clear satin or gloss varathane spray
metal ruler
pencil
drill
drawer handles
Steps:
- Lightly sand tray and remove dust with soft cloth.
- Measure and mark center of tray. Mark eight horizontal and eight vertical one -inch squares to make checkerboard pattern.
- Attach script point tip to wood burner and use the ruler as a guide to burn straight lines. Add burned dots at each intersection of lines.
- Attach leaf corner branding stamp. Stamp all four corners of checkerboard design . Attach leaf border and stamp between corners on all sides to make a border.
- Randomly stamp leaf border on sides of tray, and then stamp ladybug and butterfly designs as desired.
- Stamp eight round wood pieces with turtle and eight wood pieces with lizard tips.
- Color every other checkerboard square with Light Pine and Evergreen stain markers.
- Color turtle checkers Medium Cherry and lizard ones Grass Green. Color ladybug and butterfly designs in various colors.
- Let cure, and then spray tray and checkers with two coats of sealer.
- Drill holes for handles and attach.
Tips:
- To change tips while the tool is still hot, use pliers to remove the hot one.Set it on a ceramic tile and replace with next design.
- Fill in any missed burned spots using the script point tip.
