Projects designed by Grace Taormina.

Materials:

pillows
assorted 8-1/2" x 11" and smaller leather and suede scraps
Delta ceramcoat acrylic paints - terracotta, tomato spice, chocolate brown, hunter green
Delta gel blending medium
Rubber Stampede decorative stamps
wedge sponges
leather cement
suede cording
buttons
beads
fabric glue
scissors
paper plate

Steps:

1. Pour a small amount of each paint color onto a paper plate. Use a separate sponge for each color. Load the flat edge of the sponge with paint by patting it into the paint color. Pat the paint onto the stamp then stamp onto the surface.

2. Stamp leaves in assorted colors onto suede leather. Cut the images out, leaving a 1/4-inch border around the stamped images (figure A). Spread glue on the back of the cutout stamped images and adhere them to the pillow (figure B). Use glue to adhere the suede strips in a design to accent the stamped images.

3. As an alternative method, cut natural leather into a square shape to be centered on a square pillow. Mix acrylic paint with gel medium. Use this mixture to dye the leather a color to accent the pillow. Use different stamps in different colors to stamp a central motif in the square. Spray with leather sheen to protect the stamped leather. Center and glue the square on the front of the pillow.
