Knot

Figure A
Project designed by Karen Thomas.

Materials:

Mizuhiki paper cords in contrasting colors
printed and metallic origami paper
greeting card stock
white glue
tape
strong double-sided tape

Steps:

Knot

1. Break down the starch in the cords by holding the ends and gently tugging back and forth. Run along the length of the cord with a thumb and forefinger to soften and make the cords more pliable.

2. Hold a strand with your right thumb and first finger and hold the cord at eye level with the shorter end pointing upward. Click the icon labeled as figure A for directions on how to tie the knot.

5. Add more strands once the knot is formed while adding new strands. The knot looks best with five or more strands.

6. After all the strands have been added, pull the ends slightly to tighten and shape the knot. Flatten and smooth the strands with your fingers on a flat, hard surface.

7. Trim the ends evenly with scissors about 1-1/2 inch away from the body of the knot.

8. Tape the loose ends just above where you want to trim them and spread an even coat of white glue on the back of the knot to secure the strands.
