Figure E
Project designed by Lacey Oldham.

Materials

leather from old purses or jackets
three assorted sizes of cans
All Night Media fabric ink with stamp dauber - discontinued, use any fabric paint with make-up sponge.
make-up wedge
rubber stamps
thick tacky glue
scissors
plain paper for pattern
stiff cardboard

Steps:

1. Wrap a piece of paper around the can, leaving at least a 1/4-inch overlap at the two ends (figure A). The length of the pattern should be at least three inches longer than the can on the top and one inch longer on the bottom. Cut the paper to this size. Repeat for all three cans to make patterns.

2. Use the patterns to cut out the leather to size.

3. On the front of the leather, stamp desired images in a random pattern (figure B). Let dry.

4. Spread the white glue on the can (figure C) and glue the leather to it, overlapping the ends 1/4-inch.

5. On the bottom of the can, snip the leather in 1/2-inch intervals. Apply glue to the bottom edge of the can and press the leather down (figure D). Apply glue to the inside top edge of the can and press the leather to the inside of the can. Repeat for all three cans.

6. Glue the three cans together (figure E) and embellish as desired.

7. Glue the cans to a stiff piece of cardboard.
