Travel Memorabilia
Smart Design : Episode SDN-211 -- More Projects »
Surround yourself with objects collected while traveling as a great way to create a personal journal of your experiences. Best of all, it allows you to relive happy memories every time you enter the room. - It may sound obvious, but make sure you really want to live with an object you bring home. The important thing is not necessarily where things come from, but whether you respond to them and if they mean something to you emotionally.
- Consider the room an object will go in by the item's weight, height and how it will fit into the rhythm of a space--the high and low placement of objects that creates balance.
Smaller objects from various places provide texture, are less of a design risk and look beautiful when grouped together (figure A). Always look for objects that will make your room more stylish and give it flair. Whether on a vacation around the world or just making a trip one town over, there's always the opportunity to make your room into a more personal story.
One wonderful way to be reminded of your travels and special times is with a memory table created by sandwiching favorite pictures between two pieces of tempered glass to create a personalized display (figure B). Or, fill a Lucite box with baby shoes to recall special childhood days.
