Save the wonderful memories of summer by using the shells you collected at the beach. Below are some unique ideas for shell decor on drapery rods and tiebacks, decoration for pots, even curtain trim.
Seashell Finials
Materials:
two large seashells, starfish or sand dollars for each rod
curtain rods with finials
glue gun and glue sticks
Steps:
- Take the finial off the curtain rod.
- Hot glue the underside of the starfish.
- Lay the starfish on its back and press the finial into the glue. Allow plenty of time for drying.
- Repeat on other finial. When both are completely dry, screw them back into the curtain rod.
Seashell Tiebacks
Materials:
seashells or sand dollars (the flatter the better)
inexpensive round tiebacks
hot glue gun and glue
Steps:
- Attach the shells or sand dollars to the round part of the tiebacks by putting the hot glue on the tieback piece. Then press the shell or sand dollar on top of the tieback until it adheres.
- Mount tieback to the wall according to instructions.
Seashell Curtain Trim
Materials:
ribbon or cording
scissors
hot glue gun and glue
small shells
Steps:
- Decide how long you want the ties and double the length.
- Cut the ribbon or twine.
- Attach the shells you have chosen to the ends of the tie with glue. It is best to put the glue on the shell and then press the ribbon or twine into the glue.
- Tie the ribbons to the bottom of the loop on the curtain.
Seashell Pot
Materials:
small terra-cotta pot
small shells for outside of pot
larger shells to fill inside of pot
ribbon
glue gun and glue
Steps:
- Glue the small shells to the outside of the pot in any design you choose.
- Tie the ribbon around the top of the pot.
- Fill the pot with shells.
Note: If you don't have enough large shells to fill the whole pot, crumble newspaper and stuff into the bottom. Place shells on the top of the newspapers.
