Figure D
Interior designer, Janie Petkus, demonstrates how to use antique pieces as art:
  • Tea towels can be framed and hung on the wall. It looks nice to use several in one frame (figure A).
  • Frame multiple postcards together and put glass on the front and back so that both sides are visible (figure B).
  • In France, wallpaper manufacturers would make a painting called a cartoon (a picture of what a duplicate tapestry would look like)(figure C). The same look can be done with lace, fabric fragments, baby stockings, etc.
  • Three-dimensional brackets or corbels can be used as artwork.
  • Use a collage of pictures to cover an entire wall. Plates used to print books , each framed and displayed together on a wall, is an example of this (figure D).
