Joe Zanger visits Michael Davis, a fiber artist who creates unusual basket designs. Don't think traditional baskets--think basket sculpture.

Figure A--Using everything from reed tips to pine-cone petals, Michael Davis's basket sculptures are a quantum leap above ordinary.

Figure B--Painted push pins throughout the body of the basket provide additional artistic highlights.

More form than function, Davis uses paint to enhance the natural design of the fibers. He also runs the Connell Gallery in Atlanta.
