Create a lovely desk or dresser box from a hand-carved piece of molding.
Materials:

molding with designs
2 brackets
scrap wood
5 finials or banister knobs
pencil
handsaw
glue

Steps:

  1. Attach two brackets to both ends of the strip of molding (figure A). These will be used to hang the coat rack.
  2. Trace the bottom side of each finial or banister knob onto a piece of scrap wood. Cut the traced pieces out. Put glue inside the finial or knob and place the small piece of wood inside (figure B).
  3. Measure and mark the center point of the molding, and then mark where each knob will be placed.
  4. Apply wood glue to the back of a knob and place it on the center of the molding . Secure it by drilling a screw through the back of the molding and into the wood piece on the finial.
  5. Repeat this process with each knob until all five are in place.
