Materials:
swatches of coordinating fabric
scissors and craft knife
wooden frames or stretchers in two sizes
glue or spray adhesive
batting
glue gun and glue sticks
Steps:
- Choose several pieces of fabric, and find a place in the fabric where you like the design. Pictorial designs work well for the piece that will be the center of the frame.
- Put together the stretchers.
- Cut pieces of batting to cover all four sides of the smaller stretcher.
- Use spray adhesive to attach the batting to the sides of the stretcher (or frame).
- After it is attached, place the stretcher face down on a large piece of fabric (at least two or three inches bigger on all sides) to use as the background.
- Spray the backside of the fabric and the batting on the frame. Place the frame or stretcher onto the fabric, folding the excess around the back of the frame like a package.
- Cut the middle out by making a hole with a craft knife, and use scissors to cut to each corner (like an X).
- Tuck the pieces under and attach to the back of the frame with spray adhesive.
- Repeat the above steps with a larger frame, and a coordinating fabric, but don't cut the middle out.
- Cut a couple of pieces of batting and a piece of the pictorial fabric to go inside the frame with the center cut out of it.
- Place the largest covered frame (with the middle intact) on the bottom. Place the batting and pictorial fabric on top of this. Put the smaller frame with the middle cut out on top of the batting and fabric, and attach to the larger one with a glue gun for a layered piece of fabric artwork.
