Materials:
tapestry fabric approximately 6"x 30-40" (as desired)
backing fabric (same dimensions)
trim (cord or gimp)
large silk tassel
large potato chip clip (broken in two)
white glue
fabric trim (silk roses)
gold paint (Pure Gold or Antique Gold)
brown stain
primer
polyurethane
Gold Foil kit
hot glue gun
Steps:
- Separate the chip clip into two identical pieces if it is not already broken. Prime one clip piece (front and back). Dip fabric trim and silk roses into white glue, saturate and let dry thoroughly. Apply a coat of glue over the front of the chip clip and arrange the trim and roses in chosen design (figure A). Apply another coat of white glue over trim and roses and allow to harden and dry thoroughly.
- Paint the stiffened fabric in gold, and then apply gold foil following package directions (figure B). If desired, tone down the color by wiping on and then removing brown stain. Spray with several coats of polyurethane to seal, letting dry thoroughly between each coat.
- Lay fabric right sides together and trim the bottom portion into a "v" shape. Stitch the fabric together, leaving a three-inch opening at the top flat seam. Turn the fabric inside out and press the seams. Attach a tassel to the bottom of the "v" (figure C). Stitch the three-inch opening closed by hand or with a machine (this edge won't be seen ).
- Attach the flat top edge of the fabric to the back bottom of the decorated clip with a hot glue gun. Lay something heavy on this edge while the glue sets up.
Options:
- Attach a silk tassel to the "v" portion and glue a large carved gold hair barrette to the top.
- Use a large carved metal belt buckle for the top of the bell pull.
