Materials:

plain pottery pieces (lighter backgrounds work best)
glass items (optional)
rubbing alcohol
design ideas (from books, fabric prints, wallpapers and craft materials)
transfer paper or a china pencil to draw freehand
Pebeo Porcelaine 150 Outliners china and glass paint (Cloisonne)

Steps:

  1. Thoroughly clean pottery with rubbing alcohol.
  2. Transfer chosen design to the pieces with transfer paper or a china marker.
  3. Use squeeze tubes to apply the paint as desired and remove any excess with a cotton swab.
  4. Allow the piece to dry for 24 hours.
  5. Follow baking instructions: place the piece in a cool oven and then set the temperature for 300 degrees. When the temperature has been reached (the oven light should indicate this), set the timer for 30 minutes.
  6. Once done, turn oven off and allow the piece to cool down.

Tips:

  • Most craft paints are not approved for food or drink containers. It is acceptable to use these paints on the outside of containers and around the perimeter of food plates.
  • The paint used contains no lead and is non-toxic. Check paint labels and instructions for more information.
