The old store in a new location with a new purpose as a home.
Keith and Robin Reed bought an 1870s general store for $1 and paid $30,000 to move it a quarter-mile down the street to their farm in Lily Lake, Illinois. They restored the upper story to make an apartment for Robin's mother; the lower level will eventually be used as an antiques auction hall. Keith and Robin share their "before and after " photos, and Dorothy, Robin's mother, gives a tour of her sitting room, which reflects her love of collecting: dolls, dollhouses, friendly (never cross) owls, birdhouses . The walls in the guest bedroom are adorned with architectural elements from old dollhouses. Dorothy was an interior designer, as is Robin, so the apartment is chock full of clever and inexpensive decorating ideas.
