Project demonstrated by Marie Clapper.

Materials:

twelve craft or ice cream sticks
pet photo to fit into a two-inch square opening
3-1/2-inch square of cardboard
3/4 inch wide masking tape
brown acrylic paint
black, medium-line permanent marker or paw print rubber stamp and dark brown or black ink pad
thick craft glue
scissors
paintbrush
paper towel

Steps:

  1. Glue three craft sticks together side by side to create a craft stick set. Repeat three times.
  2. Overlap and glue the craft stick sets together to create a square frame.
  3. Tear and tape one- to 1-1/2-inch lengths of masking tape on the surface of the craft stick frame. Completely cover the frame sides and front with the tape.
  4. Paint over tape using brown paint or shoe polish. Immediately wipe off paint/polish using a paper towel. This should leave a thin, splotchy layer of color. Allow paint to dry.
  5. Use a marker or rubber stamps to draw paw prints around the front of the frame as desired.
  6. Center and glue photo on the back of the frame. Center and glue cardboard on the back of the frame.
