Bed Skirt Stenciling

Materials:

full-sized bed skirt
Crafter's Choice "Ramblin' Rose" theorem stencil kit - ATC#419
masking tape
fabric paints: Dusty Rose, French Ultramarine Blue, Raw Umber, Greenish Umber, Oxide of Chromium, Yellow Ochre
freezer wrap
stencil brushes
disappearing ink fabric pen
paper towels

Steps:

1. Wash the fabric before painting it.
2. Place the freezer wrap, sized to the work area, wax side up. Place the fabric, wrong side down, on the freezer wrap, and iron the two pieces together.
3. Decide where you want to apply the theorem image. It may be best to layout the design on the paper before painting. For example, use larger designs on the comforter, smaller images on the skirt, and a combination of sizes on the pillow shams to create an appealing symmetry.
4. Use masking tape to adhere the theorem stencil to the fabric.
5. Put the tape under the registration marks, and fill in with the paint to insure accurate alignment of each stencil layer.
6. Pick up paint on the brush designated for the first color, and remove any excess paint on a paper towel. This is called a dry brush technique. Proceed to with the first stencil, and apply color from the outer edge of the stencil opening, painting inward. Note: Paint is applied first where darker color is desired.
7. Use the stencil brush to pull the remaining color toward the lighter areas.
8. Repeat steps #2 and #6 until all the theorem images have been applied to the designated areas.
9. Allow the fabric to dry at least 72 hours before handling or washing.
