Project designed by Barbara DiClemente.

Materials:

5" x 7" wooden frame
assorted paint brushes
black acrylic eggshell paint
Negora Nuri red eggshell paint
400 trimite paper
acrylic gloss varnish
#20 steel wool

Steps:

  1. Paint frame with black paint and let dry for three hours.
  2. Put another coat of black paint on the frame let dry overnight.
  3. Apply one coat of the red negora paint and let dry for four hours.
  4. Apply second coat of red negora paint let dry overnight.
  5. Place trimite paper in warm water, then use it to lightly sand the frame.
  6. Once the black base color starts to show through, ease up sanding pressure and begin to shape images from the black paint peeking through the red. The black paint shapes should be jagged and uneven.
  7. Let the frame dry for a period of 24 hours.
  8. Apply three coats of acrylic varnish
Tip - Negora shapes are formed on worn areas such as corners and places were the paint would be worn off naturally. If you go through too much and the wood is revealed, touch up those areas with more black paint
