Materials:

molding (about 1-1/2"wide) with a "cap"
miter box (capable of making 30-degree angles)
backsaw
wood glue
finishing nails
adjustable angle clamp
electric staple gun
wood putty
sandpaper
mat board
glass
glazing points
picture hanger
felt (optional)

Steps:
  1. Cut the molding into three 16-inch strips.
  2. Cut each end into a 30-degree angle to form a triangle. Note: The recessed area of the molding needs to be toward the inside of the triangle.
  3. Glue two strips together and place in adjustable angle clamp. Insert a finishing nail in the side edge of the frame to secure the angles together. Allow to dry, then repeat procedure until triangle is formed. Turn the frame over and insert a staple at the tips of each point.
  4. Don't worry if the angles don't match perfectly, simply fill in the gaps with wood putty. Once dry, sand until smooth.
  5. Make a paper template of inside shape to cut the mat board and glass. Also plan where the photo will be placed. Color copies of the photo may help to achieve the appropriate size.
  6. Cut the mat board. Your local hardware store can cut the glass (make sure to take the frame to ensure a proper fit).
  7. Paint the frame as desired.
  8. Place glass in the frame, then the mat with photo attached. Secure in place with glazing points.
  9. Cut a piece of felt to finish off the back. Add picture hanger.
