Project designed by Julianna Hudgins.

Materials:

18-gauge silver wire
28-gauge silver wire
28-gauge brown wire
24-gauge green wire
acrylic frame
clear industrial-strength glue
assortment of small stones
tools - wire cutters, needle-nose pliers, toothpick, round-nose pliers

Steps:

  1. To make the shovel decoration, use wire cutters to cut an approximate 16-inch length of 18-gauge wire. Fold the wire in half. Shape folded end of wire into a shovel blade, and open end of wire into shovel handle.
  2. Coil 28-gauge silver wire around one-quarter of the handle under the blade of the shovel. Wrap the remaining three-fourths of the handle with a brown wire. Reshape the shovel blade.
  3. To fashion the gardening fork decoration, cut three to four pieces of 18-gauge wire in the same length - approximately 15 to 16 inches. Form the handle by holding the cut, wire pieces together and coiling 28-gauge brown wire halfway along the length of the cut pieces. Beginning just above the brown wire, coil half of the remaining length of wires with 28-gauge silver wire. Bend the open end of the wires into a pitchfork shape.
  4. Cut green wire into different lengths to form bunches of grass.
  5. Glue gardening tools, grass and small stones onto frame, applying clear, industrial-strength glue with a toothpick.

Tip: Make a gardening rake using the same technique described for the garden fork.
