With the abundance of candleholders and candlesticks available on the market, very little is left to the imagination when it comes to displaying our beloved beacons of light. The following instructions suggest displaying candles using metal pipes, metal screening and wire.

Materials:

variety of pipes, pipe clamps and English dye drainers
thin metal curtain rod or pipe with large picture frame hooks for brackets - both silver in color
soldering wire
tin snips
pliers
glass votive candleholders
candles - tea lights, tapers, and pillars
work gloves

Steps:

  1. Place tapers and pillars inside metal pipes and pipe clamps in varying sizes and heights, and place tea lights inside metal English dye drainers. Allow pipes to cool off before handling as the candle will warm them.
  2. Cut squares of metal window screening using tin snips. Place any number of tea lights in the center of square and, wearing gloves for protection, form a screen around the candles. Be careful since the screening edges will be sharp.
  3. For a candle wall display, use a very thin pipe or a section of a thin curtain rod from which to hang glass votive candleholders. Place the rod on 150 pound picture frame hangers. The hook may have to be slightly opened with pliers before hanging.
  4. Decide on number of candle hangers and their lengths.
  5. Cut soldering wire for each and allow 10 extra inches to wrap around the glass votive candleholders and rod. Wrap each piece of wire around a candleholder tightly. Twist the extra wire end and wrap it around the curtain rod. Trim if required.
  6. Insert tea lights into the candleholders.
