Materials:

embroidery floss
a piece of notched cardboard
scissors

Steps:
  1. Make a cardboard rectangle the length you want your tassel to be. Make a large notch about one-fourth of the way down the long side.
  2. Use eight to 10 skeins of embroidery floss in a mix of colors and wrap them around the length of the cardboard, keeping each wrap close to the previous one. Use all the colors.
  3. To close off the tassel, thread a needle and send it through in the middle of the gathered thread at the notch . Don't pull the thread in the needle all the way through to its end; leave an inch or so on the back side.
  4. Wrap the thread around the gathered thread in the notch several times(figure A).
  5. Go through the center of the thread with the needle again and come out the back . Cut the thread off.
  6. To make the loop at the top: send a needle with the same color of thread through the top of the tassel (figure B).
  7. Remove the needle and knot the thread tightly at the base (figure C). Make another knot at the top end of the thread. Then cut across the bottom of the thread and remove the board.
  8. Trim the bottom to even for a nice finished edge.
