Decorative Book Boxes

Materials:

wooden book box
Bunny Burner transfer tool
acrylic paints
decoupage glue
glazing medium
crackle finish
Fanci-Kwik design compound (discontinued)
decorator tips
permanent marker
decoupage prints
artist brushes
foam brushes
fine grit sandpaper
plastic plate (palette)
medium walnut wood stain
cotton cloth
paper towels

Steps:

1. Lightly sand the book boxes, and remove any dust with a soft cloth.
2. To apply ridges to the spine, attach a line or dot decorating tip to the Fanci-Kwik tube.

Steps (decoupage or crackle finish):

1. Squeeze the lines onto the box. Let it dry.
2. Paint a base coat in acrylic paint using a foam brush. Let it dry.
3. Lightly sand the box with the fine grit sandpaper.
4. Use the decoupage glue to glue the print to the front of the box. Let it dry.
5. Apply a medium walnut wood stain with a cotton cloth so that the stain soaks into the cracks.
6. Wipe off the excess stain, and let it dry.

Steps (fairy tale book finish):

1. Make color or black and white copies of fairy tale characters. Tip: Use a copy machine because an ink jet will not work.
2. Place the copy facedown onto the unfinished book box.
3. Use the Bunny Burner transfer tool to heat transfer the designs onto the box.
4. Make a 50/50 wash of acrylic paint and glazing medium.
5. Apply the book box with a foam brush, and wipe off the excess with a cotton cloth. Let it dry.
6. Use permanent marking pens to color in black and white designs, and write the title of the book on the spine.
