Make summery, colorful buffet trays for convenient dining and easy clean-up.
Materials:
foam core board in patriotic colors
coordinating disposable dinner and bread plates, napkins, and utensils
disposable cups in two sizes
elastic or ribbon
craft knife
hot glue gun
Steps:
- Cut the foam core board to the size of a lunch tray.
- Hot glue a base plate to the middle of the tray. Hot glue a bread plate on the left side of the board near the top of the plate.
- Cut two, one-inch slits through the left side of the foam core board near the bottom of the plate (figure A). Thread a piece of elastic through the slits, and tie the ends together on the back side of the board (figure B).
- Tuck a napkin and set of utensils underneath the elastic (figure C). Or, instead of using elastic, glue the middle of a strip of ribbon to the board in the same location, and tie the ends together around a set of utensils wrapped in a napkin.
- To make a cup holder, cut off the bottom of a large disposable cup, and glue it upside-down on the upper right-hand side of the tray (figure D).
- Use a smaller cup for beverages, and slip it into the bottom of the upside down cup so that it doesn't fall off the tray.
