Water Jug

Materials:
terra cotta water jug #19630
barnacles #953035
small starfish #65380
black lichen #68471
reindeer moss #68686
spackling paste
sand
acrylic paint: plum, olive, dark gray, gold, blue, brown
small brush
natural sponge
small mixing bowl
paper towels
hot glue gun w/glue sticks

Steps:

1 Mix spackling paste with sand in a small mixing bowl. Add small amounts of sand to the paste until it is the consistency of cake frosting.

2 Spread spackling mixture on the water jug as if it was coral growing over it. Leave some of the terra cotta exposed (figure A).

3 Embed the barnacles, starfish, reindeer moss and black lichen in the spackling mixture on the jug. It should look as if the barnacles grew from the nooks and crannies (figure B).

4 Paint the water jug with water-diluted paint using a natural sponge or small brush, letting the paint drizzle down the sides (figure C).

5 Dab off excess paint with a paper towel and continue this process until you have the aged appearance you like.

6 Allow to dry overnight. Secure any loose pieces with glue.

Wall Plaque

Materials:
spackling paste
gesso
sand
10" x 10" board
wine grape cluster #77650
barnacles #953035
stir-fry shells #953340
small starfish #65380
black lichen #68471
reindeer moss #68686
small piece of jute rope
acrylic paints: plum, olive, dark gray, gold, and blue
putty knife
small brush
natural sponge
mixing bowl
hot glue gun w/glue sticks
paper towels

Steps:

1 Paint the board and grape cluster with gesso and let dry.

2 Glue grapes to center of board.

3 In a small mixing bowl, mix spackling paste and sand, adding small amounts of sand to the paste until it is the consistency of cake frosting.

4 Spread the spackling mixture with a putty knife under the sides and over the top of the grape cluster (figure D).

5 Fill in the crevices, but let the grapes peek out of the mixture. This gives the appearance of coral growing on and over the grapes

6 Spread the spackling mixture out from the grapes in a couple of places, continuing to simulate the coral growing across the plaque (figure E).

7 Decorate with starfish, barnacles, bits of shell, reindeer moss and lichen. Embed these into the spackling mixture and let dry overnight.

8 After it is dry, if any pieces are loose, glue them in place with a dot of hot glue.

9 Paint the plaque with diluted paint and a natural sponge or small brush, dabbing off excess paint.
