Materials:
unfinished wood shelf
veggie or other plastic molds
screws
plaster mix
drill and drill bits

- Primo Primer

- Copper Topper
- Patina Green
200-grit sandpaper
tack cloth or other cloth
pencil
tape measure or ruler
foam and bristle paint brushes
plastic plates

Steps:
1. Sand the shelf and remove dust by wiping down with a tack cloth or very slightly damp cloth.
2. Measure and mark with pencil location for plaster knobs and drill pilot holes. Be sure to wear safety glasses while drilling.
3. Use a natural bristle brush to prime the piece using Primo Primer and Clear Sealer. Allow to dry completely according to package instructions.
4. Use a foam brush to apply a coat of Iron Metallic Surfacer (figure A). Let dry 30 minutes. Apply a second coat and let dry overnight to allow to cure.
5. Apply Instant Rust solution using a bristle brush, covering the entire piece. Within 30 minutes the rust patina effect appears as the surface dries (figure B). For natural rust finish, no sealer is required--or you can seal with Primo Primer and Clear Sealer.
6. Mix plaster according to manufacturer's instructions and pour into molds. After about 5 or 10 minutes, or when the plaster is set enough, push a threaded screw head-first about half way into the back center (figure C).
7. Pop out castings when completely dry. Sand any rough edges with 200-grit sandpaper or an emery board. Prime with Primo Primer and Clear Sealer and let dry.
8. Use a foam brush to apply a thin coat of Copper Topper. Let dry 30 minutes. Apply a second coat and let dry 30 more minutes (figure D).
9. Apply a thin final coat of Copper Topper. When damp to the touch, lightly apply the patina green solution using a bristle brush and covering the entire piece (figure E).
10. Within minutes, the verdi gris patina effect appears as the surface dries. If desired, apply a clear acrylic finish.
