Handmade topiaries are a chic, low-cost accessory for a romantic and classy French country family room.
Materials:

clay flower pots
cheesecloth or rag
paint (Blue Lapis 2067-40) (Benjamin Moore)
foam topiary forms
sheet of dried moss
curly willow
artificial lemons (or other fruit)
glue gun
scissors
floral foam material
paintbrush
gold craft paint

Steps:

1. Use a bunched up piece of cheesecloth or a rag to dab paint onto the pots until covered. Let dry. Cut floral foam pieces and fill the pot.

2. Cut a rectangular piece of moss to fit around each section of the topiary form. Put hot glue directly onto the topiary form and mold the piece of moss around it, folding in any excess pieces and gluing as you go (figure A).
3. Stick some curly willow into the base of the topiary, and then wrap it around the topiary form. Stick the artificial lemons into the topiary as desired and glue them in place if necessary.
4. Glue the topiary form to the floral foam inside the pot. Note: The top of the topiary base should sit slightly higher than the top of the pot. Cover the base of the topiary form with moss glued in place.
5. Paint gold designs on the upper rim of the pot and let dry.
