  • Centerpieces are great for a dinner party, a buffet table, or just when a coffee table needs some personality. A serving dish with artificial garlands such as holly or ivy are great for these occasions. Just place an ornamental candle in the center of the garland (figure A), or some holiday nuts surrounding a small plant.

  • Take numerous, inexpensive plastic beads, such as those tossed at Mardi Gras, and spread them out on a flat surface. Insert some small candles throughout and suddenly a festive centerpiece is created (figure B)!

  • Decorate a tin can with construction paper to serve as a candle holder, then surround it with acorns or other items found on a nature walk. By adding a decorated, inverted coffee can lid to the base, beads and nuts can be hot glued around the perimeter (figure C).

  • A platter filled with nuts and candies centered around a candle is a simple centerpiece that brightens any table.
