Marshmallow Chicks Easter Bonnet

Marty Brooks from Michael's Arts and Crafts shows how to adorn an Easter bonnet with marshmallow chicks and other Easter delights to make a decoration that is suitable for a wall or tabletop.

Tabletop Easter Bonnet

Materials:

18" straw hat
Easter grass (comes in a variety of colors; use your choice)
ivy
hot-glue gun
paper twist (also known as paper yarn)
plastic foam eggs (grade A large and Swan sizes)
floral picks
marshmallow chicks (all colors)

Steps:


  1. Take a handful of Easter grass and roll in the palm of your hand until it's golf-ball size.

  • Use hot glue to attach the grass to the straw hat (figure A) around the brim.

  • Hot glue several twigs of ivy around the Easter grass.

  • Open the paper twist and unroll by hand. A quick and easy way to unroll the paper twist is to attach one end to an electric eggbeater and turn it on.

  • Make a bow with the unrolled paper twist and hot glue just below the Easter grass (figure B).

  • Apply some glue to the end of a floral pick (spiral the wire down on the pick) and insert into a grade A-size plastic foam egg.

  • Use a low-temperature glue to attach jellybeans onto the foam egg until the entire surface is covered.

  • Insert the jellybean-covered foam egg into the tabletop Easter bonnet.

    *Note: For this project, Brooks made three grade A-sized jellybean eggs.

  • Repeat steps 5, 6 and 7 for a swan-size egg.

  • Hot-glue several marshmallow chicks and attach to the tabletop Easter bonnet.
