Materials:
variety of fruits and vegetables from the produce department
greenery fillers such as eucalyptus leaves, juniper sprigs, etc.
zester (or channel knife)
lemon juice
vegetable oil
nice bowl for the base of the arrangement
floral foam and picks
Steps:
- Soak floral foam, then place it into the bowl. Build it up in pyramid fashion.
- Attach fruit and vegetables to floral picks or skewers. Position larger, more interesting fruit and veggies, such pears or artichokes, randomly into floral foam.
- Begin to fill in the floral foam with picks of smaller fruits such as lemons and limes.
- Once the fruit is in place, fill in any gaps using greenery such as eucalyptus leaves, juniper sprigs, etc.
Additional Ideas and Tips:
- Use mainly citrus fruits as the basis for the design. Choose lemons, limes, pears, apples, and add brussels sprouts for a floral look.
- Use a zester or paring knife to carve designs in the fruit skins, then brush lemon juice over the skin to prevent browning.
- Rub vegetable oil on lemons and limes to keep them looking shiny and vibrant.
- To make the Brussels sprouts look like small flowers, cut off the top third of each one and soak them in water in the refrigerator. After several hours of soaking, remove them and peel back the leaves.
