Figure A

  • If your branch or grapevine wreath is looking a little weathered, spruce it up with wood-colored spray paint (figure A).

  • Make a wreath hanger by wrapping a piece of 24-gauge wire in floral tape. Determine where the top of your wreath is, then wrap the wire around two of the larger branches. Twist the ends of the wire together to make a circle, then turn the hanger so that the ends are hidden in the wreath.

  • Twist the hanger again to make a figure eight and secure it in place, then mark the hanger by tying on a piece of ribbon (figure B).

  • Small peat pots or clay pots make great accessories for a woodland wreath. Peat pots are lighter than clay pots, but pick your favorite. To attach, just thread a length of wire through the center of the pot down through the bottom hole. Twist the two ends of the wire together (figure C), then use another wire threaded through the loop to attach the pot to the wreath (figure D).

  • Add a small nest to a wreath and include some small plastic eggs if desired. Attach with either wire or floral glue. Do not use hot glue if the wreath will be displayed outdoors because hot glue will not withstand the elements.

  • Change the contents of the small pots with the change of the seasons. Fresh lavender or a small plant makes great filler for the spring (figure E), then place autumnal leaves in the pots during the fall.

  • Silk flowers always make a nice addition.

  • Add more green to a wreath by wrapping a silk ivy ring around the wreath (figure F).
