Faux Metal Leaf Basket

Create the look of a very weathered metal basket with silk ivy and a rust-producing product.

Materials:

metal basket
silk ivy
Primo Primer and Clear Sealer
Iron Metallic Surfacer
Instant Rust
foam brushes
plastic plates
vinyl gloves (optional)
wax paper
bird accent (polyresin, plastic, etc.)
hot glue gun
moss

Steps:

1. Brush primer/sealer over basket, bird and leaves/stems/tendrils (put them on wax paper). Let dry.

2. Brush a coat of Iron Metallic Surfacer on all pieces and let it dry for 30 minutes. Apply a second coat and let it cure overnight.

3. Apply Instant Rust solution over the entire surface of each item. Within 30 minutes the rust patina effect appears as the surface dries.

4. Fill the basket with moss; wind rusted leaves around it, and then glue the bird to the basket edge. Note: No sealer is required for a natural rust finish.
