Bottles & Drawer Pulls

Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-419 -- More Projects »
Carole Jackman, the owner of a pressed flower company, combines her blooms with Carol Duvall's crafts as they decorate perfume bottles, drawer pulls, and other items. Jackman explains that this method is very easy in that it only requires a trained eye to arrange the blossoms.

Decorative Bottle

Materials:

clean, dry bottle
Elmer's Craft Bond clear-drying adhesives
Pressed Flowers by Nature's Pressed
ribbon to complement colors in flowers and bottle
flat, round-tip tweezers
Blair Spray Clear Acrylic Coating - matte and gloss finishes available
small paint brush

Steps:

  1. Select pressed flowers and, with tweezers, pre-arrange on bottle as desired. Remove flowers from bottle (figure A).
  2. Apply glue to backs of flowers--tiny dots in several places, not too much (figure B). Starting with greenery first, apply to bottle as pre-arranged. Use paint brush to apply extra glue under all edges of flowers to tack them down flat. Allow to dry completely.

Figure B
  • Spray clear acrylic sealer over entire bottle. Do not spray too much, and avoid re-spraying. This causes the sealer to create a crackle-like finish, and will crackle the pressed flowers as well.
  • Fill bottle with colored water, bath oil, or liquid soap.
  • Tie ribbon at the top in a big bow. Embellished Drawer Pulls

    Materials:

Delta acrylic paint - Cream color
    Pressed Flowers by Nature's Pressed
    flat, round-tip tweezers
    small paint brush
    medium paint brush
    wooden drawer knobs
Blair Spray Clear Acrylic Coating - matte and gloss finishes available
    Elmer's all-purpose white glue
    Mod Podge

    Steps:
    1. Using medium paint brush, apply two coats of Cream acrylic paint to the wooden knobs. Sand between coats for a smoother finish. Allow to dry.
    2. Select pressed flowers and pre-arrange on knob as desired. Remove flowers from knob.
    3. Apply glue to backs of flowers (tiny dots in several places - not too much). Place on knob, starting with bottom flowers o arrangement first. Use small paint brush to apply extra glue under all edges of flowers to tack them down flat. Allow to dry completely.
    4. Use medium paint brush to apply Mod Podge over entire knob for a matte finish, or spray clear acrylic sealer over knob for a glossy finish.
    Tips
    • Use tweezers to handle the flowers easily while arranging, placing, and gluing.
    • Use the paint brush to glue all edges of flowers down securely so that they do not come up when sealer is applied.
    • If flower or leaves break apart, they can be glued back together easily by pushing them together with the tweezers or paint brush. Avoid using your fingers - they'll stick to the glue and flowers.
