Video: A heavy fabric border adds interest and color to this store-bought rug.
Materials:

natural sisal rug
heavy fabric (like tapestry)
iron
spray adhesive
hot glue gun

Steps:

  1. Decide the desired border width (the featured project was six inches). Cut the fabric by doubling the border width and add two inches for hems(14 inches for the featured project).
  2. Turn over the one-inch hems along the length of the fabric and press them in place. Fold the strip in half and press in the fold.
  3. To keep the bulk of the fabric from slipping around, use spray adhesive to press the border down on both the top and bottom of the rug.
  4. Seal the edges flat by running a bead of hot glue along the turned-over edge and press it into place with your fingers. At the corners, take the long strips all the way to the corner and hot-glue them around the edge. On the shorter strips, fold and iron in a mitered corner, and then glue it down tight to create a more finished detail.
