Rejuvenate tired vinyl floors with paint.
Artist Ilona Saari explains how she rejuvenated her vinyl floors with paint. Liking the black-and-white squares on her kitchen floor, she decided to make a personal statement instead of replacing the old flooring. First she primed and repainted the white squares, which had yellowed. Then she decorated them in a variety of ways:

  • Painting random squares with bright colors
  • Finger-painting
  • Writing sayings and bars of music on them
  • Making leaf impressions

Saari even painted doormats at the doors. Then she decided to repaint the black tiles since they looked old next to the updated white ones, so she used a black latex enamel on them, then sealed the whole floor with Varathane. She recommends freshening up the floor every year or so to get rid of signs of wear.
