Rescued Linoleum

Smart Solutions : Episode SSL-354 -- More Projects »
Designer Susan Lane provides an alternative way to spruce up that old linoleum floor. It will save you time and money and rescue your drab kitchen, too.

Covering Linoleum with "Stone"

Materials:

acrylic-based paint
plain, brown wrapping paper
white household glue
water
liquid plastic

Steps:

  1. Thoroughly clean floor.

  2. Paint linoleum with acrylic-based paint that is the same color as the grout.

  3. Tear plain brown wrapping paper into pieces that look somewhat like stone, leaving the edges rough.

  4. Make a glue mixture by mixing one part white household glue with two parts water. Crumple the paper stones and soak them in glue mixture.

  5. Place the paper stones on the floor in desired pattern. Pat down to smooth each piece.

  6. Let dry for 24 hours and coat with liquid plastic. Apply two to three coats.

  7. Finish with another coat every couple of years.
