Create a decorative retro fireplace screen using corrugated cardboard as the base.
Matted Photos:
- Make color photocopies of old black and white family photos to achieve a sepia tone. Do not use actual photos on the screen.
- Using precut photo mats, add glue to all of the backing. Use a cardboard squeegee to spread glue around evenly. Press the photo copy onto the wet glue.
- Run a clean squeegee across top of the photocopy to push out any bubbles and excess glue.
- Add tacky glue to the back of photo mat frame, and press over the photo onto the back of mat to complete.
Screen:
- Trim corrugated tri-fold cardboard (the kind that is often used for kids' science projects) into any desired shape.
- For the front of the screen, measure the cardboard sections and transfer the measurements to a sheet of artist's paper, adding 1" to all sides.
- Add tacky glue to backside of cardboard panes near the edges, and fold the paper over the backside into the glue. Do not add glue to the front of the panel.
- Pull the paper taut.
Completion:
- Lay the screen on a flat surface.
- Arrange the photos the way you want them, add glue liberally to the back of finished photo mats, and press them onto the screen. Be sure that the piece is flat until all glue has dried.
