Figure A--This mantel is decorated for Thanksgiving and uses traditional autumn elements such as pumpkins, wreaths of fall leaves, fall artwork and small antique items.

Figure B--Designer Richard Anderson raided his own toy chest to decorate this Christmas mantel with a selection of treasured toys from his childhood. The result is a mantel with a distinctive Old World style.

Figures C and D--This elegant mantel design has a collection of angels as its focus, and other items include tasseled roping, beaded fruits and gilded gift boxes. Other touches include an antique writing desk and chair placed near the fireplace to add depth to the design. Anderson says this is a rich and formal look that works as an alternative to a more glitzy Christmas display.
