Figure C
Decorative painter Jenny Bowman shows now to add a trompe l'oeil effect to a baby chest (see photo at right).

Materials:

clothing items to use as guides
scissors
pencil
craft paper
craft paint
buttons, hooks and stitches

Steps:

  1. Trace a clothing item onto craft paper, then cut it out. Overalls are used on the show.

  2. Place a pattern over the top edge of the drawer and trace around it with a pencil, or drape the clothing item over the drawer and trace around it.

  3. Fill in clothing designs with craft paint (figure A). Darken shadowed areas with a darker shade to give a realistic effect (figure B).

  4. Add details, such as buttons (figure C), buckles and stitches.
