Materials:
unfinished pine end table
2" paintbrush
220-grit sandpaper
small and medium round artist's brushes (one each)
Benjamin Moore's water-based walnut wood stain
2 oz. Golden Paints Titanium White
white artist's chalk
assortment of 2 oz. Golden Paints
1 qt. Benjamin Moore's low-sheen acrylic polyurethane
clean cloths
Steps:
- Lightly sand all the surfaces on the table with the 220-grit sandpaper in the direction of the grain. Remove dust with a clean cloth.
- With a 2" brush, apply the wood stain, again in the direction of the wood grain. Use a clean cloth to wipe off any excess. Let the table dry overnight
- Next, brush on a coat of low-sheen polyurethane. Let the table dry overnight
- Lightly sand all surfaces. Wipe down the table with a clean cloth and repeat step #3.
- Take a photocopy of the image you wish to transfer to the top of the table and apply a layer of white artist's chalk to the back of the photocopy (we used fishing lures). Position the image on the table. Using a pencil, trace the outline of the image. When the photocopy is removed, the chalk image will remain.
- With the medium artist's brush, apply an even layer of Titanium White paint to cover the outline of your image. This will act as a base coat.
- Using the small artist's brush, use an assortment of colors to finish painting the lures.
Note: To protect your table, give it a coat of water-based acrylic polyurethane.
