Figure A--Limestone, marble and slate are enjoying a decorating renaissance these days, and that's good news for guys like Steve Byrum. He not only installs stone work, he creates it. He's done this small-stone fireplace surround to camouflage the fact that the fireplace isn't real.

Figure B--The chiseled-edge look is Byrum's calling card. It first came to him when he was working on a design for a powder room one day. He rubs the stone against a large saw blade to create the effect.
